Help I need serious cat advice
Sorry that this will be long, but I really need help. I adopted a cat about two weeks ago to be my new loving companion. He's two tears old and weighs 7.5 pounds. When I adopted him, he was so playful, curious, and affectionate. He would follow me or my boyfriend around the room, and would greet us when we entered the room. He is potty trained, and the only mischief he got into was scratching things he wasn't supposed to (he is not declawed). Otherwise, he was such a perfect cat who stole my heart. It wasn't until a week later that things went downhill.
On a Tuesday night, all of a sudden, he started hiding in his crate. Initially, we thought he was just tired and wanted to sleep. But days passed, and he became lethargic. He started walking slower, hiding a lot, and seldom ate and drank. Concerned, I took him to the vet for a physical exam. However, the vet said he was perfectly normal. They figured it was just stress and that he'll be over it in a few days. A bit relieved, I took him back home.
It has been four days since the vet. He's hiding a bit less now and eating more, but he is completely disinterested in playing and attention. He still walks a bit slowly as well. I feel like such a terrible cat owner.. This is the first time I owned a cat, and I don't know what else to do. I'm worried that it's something more than stress, or that I did something wrong.
We keep him in one room right now. My boyfriend's cat does not like him at all, so we don't really let them interact. I currently stay with him and his family until I go back to college next week. I will be taking my cat with me and he will live with me in my dorm (they let me keep him there because I certified him as an emotional support animal). He has all of his shots updated and is neutered.
I really just want my cat to feel better again... I've been crying thinking about if I had caused him this pain. I'm even thinking about leaving him with my boyfriend because I feel like such a terrible parent. What do I do? I feel so lost..
