#cat - #Indoor vs Outdoor Cats

Indoor vs Outdoor Cats

I often feel very guilty when my indoor cat moans when she sees all the action going on beyond the glass. In fact it kills me when an outdoor cat teases her on the other side of the patio door, as she moans and whines and often pouts after. But I have to say that nothing would worry me more than watching her dodge traffic, run from dogs, and fighting the local neighborhood bullies. So many predators out there...some human some not so much. The worst thing would be to not know what happened if she didnt come home one day.

What I have done during warm weather is to put her carrying cage near the patio door with the cage door open. When she wants to "go out" she gets in the cage, I lock the door, and set her on the patio or in the grass when I'm working in the yard. She loves this as she can observe without being exposed to the dangers all around. She smells so fresh when we come back in, the natural effects of the ozone in the air. It's the best I can do...I guess I'm selfish. Life is about compromise and this works for us. She determines when it's time to go out which forces me to work in the yard or garden! Win Win.
