How to get a cat to stop scratching literally everything he shouldn't be?
My sister's cat is always scratching furniture and gets around everything we have tried. Here is what we have tried:
Scratching post training with cat nip- we have scratching posts all around the house that we introduce him to and encourage him to play on, and use cat nip to attract him, but NOPE! Furniture is much better to him.
Yelling at the cat doesn't work anymore, he is immune.
Cat 'trainer' who came to the house to help train him when he was a kitten and later when he was a year old- he just LOVED when she would spray water at him to get him to stop, so it was more of an encouragement to tear up our stuff.
Soft Paws- We have gotten him the soft paws professionally put on 3 times at 3 different places, and he has torn them off every single time the same day.
New unappealing furniture- we have tried buying new chairs for our home that you would think are unappealing to scratch but apparently there is no such thing as a non scratch-able chair or couch
Furniture covers- we have tried cloth, hard plastic, and those anti-scratch sticker things but he gets around all of them because he is evil.
We have also tried keeping him in one room of the house to limit his destruction but the damage is so much that we would have to constantly get the furniture fixed or replaced in that room.
We have been trying for almost two years since this behavior started. My sister is contemplating getting him declawed at this point, so I'm trying to think of any alternate to that I can. Help pls.
