#cat - #Kitten suddenly aggressive???

Kitten suddenly aggressive???

Leo we found abandoned at a few days old in March, right before a snowstorm hit. We've raised him since then, and he's always been a very affectionate, friendly cat. He was originally just going to be a foster cat, but after our older cat passed very suddenly, we decided to adopt Leo into our family. He's friendly with the dogs and our remaining older cat, and we also foster kittens, whom he plays with.

A few days ago, Leo began acting aggressively toward us whenever he's being held or approached—hissing and growling if we hold him (though making no effort to attack). He's still very affectionate when being pet or scratched, and purrs a great deal (he's a little purr machine!) and, on occasion now when in the mood to be held, very rubby.

A few things of note:

-Leo is neutered.

-Leo did have a kennel he slept in at night with no protest, though we currently have two sick kittens quarantined in that kennel. We tried placing him in another kennel instead at night (which is normally the kennel for one of our dogs), but that was when the aggression started—he began pacing the kennel and growling. He's now free to roam at night and there haven't been any incidents. In fact, he was hanging out with the older cat this morning. I personally suspect he's upset that there's two kittens in "his" kennel, but that may just be a coincidence.

-He has been to the vet recently and was given a clean bill of health.
