There are some neighborhood cats who come by my house to torment my cats. My cats get really stressed out. How do I get rid of the cats?
My girlfriend recently brought her cat to My place about two months ago. Everything was fine until around last week.
The cat (which is maybe between two to three years old) has always been living with at least seven other cats in the family and is now living alone with me and my girlfriend. My girl has a job and i had school up until a couple of weeks ago so The cat has been alone between, typically, 8-14 on weekdays. She has always been vocal and meowing when you Come up to her and is going to Pet her, but these last few days shes been insufferable. Today we also noticed she will climb into any "cave" she can find, either if we lift up our covers or If theres a hole underneath The mattress etc.
Other than meowing, seeking attention, and looking for holes shes normal, eating and pooping as she always has.
Is this normal behaviour or could she be stressed or anything similar?
Firs off, I am aware that it could just be the way she meows, but she has a bit of a sad history before she came to live with me, and I have a theory. But first her backstory:
Long story short, she lived in a basement for about 3 years, and the only care she got was being fed, and having her box cleaned.
She has been with me now for almost two years, and has transformed from an agoraphobic cat that clearly wants to be pet but cannot handle being touched and hiding if you sniffle too loud near her, to a timid little cuddle bug that sleeps under the blanket wi me.
Now the theory I have; since doing some reading I learned that cats only meow as kittens, but house cats continue to meow to communicate with people about wants and needs. I think that having been alone for so long, she forgot how/lost the ability to properly meow.
She can still make other cat noises that cats make (hissing, and a heartbreaking yeaowl, when I had to put her in a crate) so I know she isn't mute.
Just curious as to what others might think, and I'm happy to answer any questions!
Edit; a small typo
The older cat (12 years) has taken to hiding from the kitten (~5 months). The kitten is mostly trying to play and the old man just is not having it. He is such a push over and will not strike out at the kitten but just cries and hides. I hate to get rid of the kitten but the old man is the primary pet. Anybody have any Ideas to help them get along?
My SO and I moved in together 2 months ago. Him with Chikita, his 4 y/o female who's always had two lives, one with the humans and one outside, at night, with the city's cat society ; me with my two 1 /yo male+female cats who'd never been outside before.
Chikita managed to assert her dominance over my cats on the inside of the appartment and we're all fine with that because she doesn't seem to abuse that territorial power. But outside, mine quickly became very curious and exploring while she remains super shy and stays indoors or near the door all the time. I get that she kinda lost her other "cat life" and would have to build herself a new place in the new neighborhood, but i'm starting to wonder if she even will adapt eventually, how so and why/why not.
Does anyone here understand her behavior? Is there something my SO and i could do to help the 3 have happy cat lives? Thanks!
