New cat problem

I need your help so I just got a 2 year old amazing cat. He used his litter box initially and now whenever he's outside of the room with the litter box he pees or poops on the floor. He knows where his food and litter are cause he will leave the room to go back to them. What should I do how can I train him to really use it
